Moving Forward

We live in interesting times. On the one hand man is trying to colonise Mars while on the other hand he is trying to save his parent planet Earth from extinction threatened by his own misdeeds. Perhaps these two movements, — a desperate bid to survive another holocaust and some alternate ground of his being, are two sides of the one truth that he is constantly experiencing. It translates into a growing evolutionary tension within him that is taking the form of various maladies and challenges.

What is the remedy? Decades back, Sri Aurobindo and the Mother spoke of this growing tension and they gave the remedy as well, — to spiritualise or in other words to take the next evolutionary step. To evolve or to perish seems to be the next critical phase in the great experiment of life that is taking place upon Earth.

But this seems to be not just an individual realisation but a collective effort, not just inner experiences but changes in the outer field of work and action as well. It means a change in our institutions so as to facilitate the evolutionary emergence and direct and channelize the growing evolutionary pressure that is placing new and unprecedented demands on our humanity.

Time is pressing and the pressure is growing upon man. Let us hope that he will be able to negotiate the critical moments in the narrow passage to the next species.
