Mental Purification: Preparing the Mind to Turn Towards the Divine

The three-day workshop with Dr. Yogesh Mohan explored mental purification as a movement from the restless, ego-centred surface mind towards a wider, quieter and more receptive consciousness turned towards the Divine Mother.

Day 1 — Recognising the Surface Mind

The first session began by examining the limitations of the ordinary surface mind; its constant activity, doubt, judgement and tendency to mistake its own conclusions for truth.

The participants explored the possibility that the mind is only a small part of the whole being. Even when the surface mind is caught in anxiety, suffering or confusion, a deeper part of the being can remain untouched. The invitation was to become conscious of this movement and identify instead with the increasingly quiet and receptive part of our being, to open to a deeper consciousness.

Dr. Mohan also introduced the necessity of collective aspiration, silence and receptivity, and ended with a practice of quietening the mind and opening it to Light and Peace.

Day 2 — Moving Beyond the Ego

The second session went deeper into the layers of identity. From identifying ourselves with our body, thoughts, beliefs, desires and ego, the journey moved towards recognising the greater dimensions of the being.

Mental purification was described as freeing the mind not only from psychological disturbances, but also from personal conditioning, past memories, fears and the influences of the collective consciousness. Participants were guided through the emotional, vital and physical layers of the being, offering memories, desires, relationships and subconscious patterns to the Divine Mother.

The central invitation of this session was to realise: “I am a child of the Divine Mother.” This shift in identity opened the possibility of moving beyond the limited surface personality towards a deeper sense of being held in the vast, loving consciousness of the Divine.

Day 3 — Offering the Obstacles and Turning Towards the Divine

The final session brought the process into a deeper and more practical dimension. The participants shared how the previous practices had continued to work through their bodies, emotions, thoughts and everyday activities. Experiences of greater calm, clarity, vastness and the ability to return more quickly from ordinary reactions showed how the inner state could begin to influence outer life.

The session focused on the subtle mental obstacles that can remain hidden behind apparently reasonable or even spiritual ideas — “I am not capable,” “I am not worthy,” “my way is the right way,” “nothing is happening,” or “this is not possible for me.” These beliefs, along with comparison, judgement, the need for recognition and even spiritual pride, were offered as further layers of purification.

The movement culminated in turning the whole of life towards the Divine — not withdrawing from ordinary responsibilities, but allowing work, relationships, thought and action to become conscious offerings.

The Movement of the Three Days

The three sessions followed a gradual movement:

From the surface mind → to awareness of the deeper being → to surrender and transformation.

We began recognising the limitations of the mind, moved into a deeper questioning of who we are, and finally into the practice of offering the whole being to the Divine Mother.

Mental purification was seen as an ongoing process of becoming increasingly quiet, plastic, humble, receptive and conscious — allowing higher consciousness to work through us rather than trying to force transformation through the mind.

The workshop invited us to move from “I am this limited personality”

 towards the deeper recognition:

I am a child of the Divine Mother.

From this consciousness, the mind can gradually release its rigidity, ego, fears, conditioning and need for control … to remain receptive, and allow the Divine to transform the substance of our consciousness.

And this transformation need not be forced or measured through experiences. The practice is to offer, remain open, and trust that the work unfolds in its own time.
